I usually drink a cup of Yerba Mate latte and a few espresso throughout the day, and today I decided to mix them together and make a Dirty Yerba Mate Latte. I can’t say for sure that I was the first person to do this, since dirty tea lattes are not a new concept, but I’ve never heard anyone using Yerba Mate for this type.

Ingredients:

2 shots of espresso

2 shots of Yerba Mate( I prefer Guayaki brand myself)

6 oz Vanilla Soy Milk

Dash of nutmeg

Directions:

Using Espresso machine, make up the 4 shots and put them in a cup big enough for the 12 oz of drink. Steam the soy milk and froth if you like. Mix together, and add nutmeg to taste.

Verdict:

I found the Yerba Mate tea and the espresso flavors to blend very well together, the tea smoothed out the bitterness of the espresso, while the nutmeg brought out some earthy and smokey characteristics of the tea and espresso. As always, the vanilla soy milk adds a touch of sweetness without distracting from the flavors of the drink, and makes for a smooth creamy texture.
